The problems we're solving

😤

Constant reminders

You ask. They ignore. You ask again. Family life shouldn't feel like project management — but without a shared system, it always does.

🤷

Children not engaged

When responsibilities are invisible, so is the connection between effort and reward. Children need to see their own progress to care about it.

🗂️

Scattered across apps

Calendars here, shopping lists there, pocket money in a notebook. Nothing connects. Nothing is shared. Nothing sticks.

Everything your family needs,
in one place

Chores, allowances, goals, meal planning, shopping requests, and the family calendar — connected and working together.

💰

Pocket Money & Goals

Track allowances, savings goals, and spending history. Children see their balance grow toward something they care about — and learn why saving is worth it.

Chores & Responsibilities

Set recurring tasks with rewards — payment, savings bonus, activity, or gift. Children mark tasks done; parents approve. Mandatory tasks gate optional rewards until the essentials are complete.

📅

Family Calendar

Everyone knows what's happening. School events, activities, and family plans in one shared view. iCal sync works with Google Calendar and Apple Calendar.

🍽️

Meal Planning

Plan the week's meals together. Search recipes by URL, paste ingredients, or photograph a recipe page and let Harthena extract it automatically. Shopping lists are built from your meal plan. Children can suggest meals and help with planning — giving them a stake in family decisions.

Shopping Requests

Children submit requests; parents approve or decline in one tap. A calm, structured process that replaces pestering with a proper flow — and gives children practice articulating what they need and why.

👁️

Age-Appropriate Views

Under 7: large colourful tiles. Ages 7–13: personalised dashboard with tasks and money. Teens (14+): full dashboard with goal bar, weekly progress chip, and inline calendar. Each child sees exactly what fits their age.

🔒

Parent Controls Always On

Children cannot change balances, approve their own tasks, or see other children's data. Every outcome requires parent sign-off. The parent "Today view" always shows what genuinely needs attention — and nothing more.

Up and running
in minutes

No complex setup. No learning curve. A short wizard walks you through everything on day one.

1

Create your family

Register and give your family a name. A setup wizard guides you through choosing which features to turn on.

2

Add your children

Each child gets their own profile, icon, and view designed for their age band — under 7, 7–13, or 14+.

3

Set up your system

Add allowances, create tasks with rewards, import your calendar via iCal, and plan this week's meals. Turn on what you need, hide what you don't.

4

Family gets going

Children log in on their own devices. Responsibilities are clear. Rewards are visible. Parents see exactly what needs their attention each day.

One app,
every perspective

Each family member gets a view designed for how they think and what they need to see.

Parents

Child home view

A fuller dashboard with weekly progress, money overview, savings goal bar, and inline calendar. Designed for more independence.

Built on convictions,
not assumptions

🛡️
Children cannot change their own outcomes
Tasks, balances, and request decisions always require parent approval. No child can approve their own work, see another child's data, or alter what they've been paid. Accountability is built into every interaction.
📱
Works on any device, even without internet
Harthena is a progressive web app — it installs directly on iOS, Android, or any browser. It works offline, syncs when you're back online, and always shows a clear sync status so you know where things stand.
💷
Informational only — not a financial service
Harthena tracks allowances, savings goals, and spending — all parent-defined and informational only. It does not hold money, process payments, or provide financial advice. It's a shared ledger your family controls.

Bates PM Harthena

Built from real family life

Harthena started life as a home project in West Sussex. Anton built a small app to manage his family's pocket money without the notebooks and the arguments. That app was called Bates PM. This is what it grew into — rebuilt properly, opened up, and designed for families who just want the week to run more smoothly. The name, Harthena, reflects something that hasn't changed: the hearth and heart of the family, all in one place.
